DOSSIER

HISTORY: Wiki

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: It might not seem like it to a casual observer or acquaintance, but Logan is a soldier living by his own code of honor; which again, might not even seem honorable to anyone else. He's a very morally gray character--the quintessential antihero. He tends to work toward the greater good, and is very protective of those close to him, and of good people in general. He opposes tyranny, whether it's humanity trying to eradicate mutants, or mutants trying to destroy humanity. His methods, of course, aren't very nice. Cruelty and needless suffering aren't his way, yet he is a brutal man who gets shit done for the good guys. He also gets shit done for himself when he's off forging his own path, and doesn't shy away from using whatever means necessary. He has struggled to find himself, to figure out who he is, where he belongs, and the purpose of his long life. Most of those things he has found in friendship and his chosen family; because Logan is effective when he's on his own, but he's at his best when he's fighting for a purpose and for people he's loyal to.

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?: He's gotten much better at controlling it over the years, but the animalistic side of Logan is full of rage and violence. If the situation gets desperate, or if there is a dire threat to people he cares about, he could very well succumb to it. It's much like a berserker's rage, tearing viciously through his enemies and feeling little to no remorse about their deaths. Several times he's even been woken up from nightmares, only to nearly kill the person waking him. The guilt he carries for killing people who didn't completely deserve it weighs on him; Jean's death most of all, even if she's back. He still did it. Logan can be an asshole with little patience and a penchant for speaking his mind. That goes for anybody, whether they're an average Joe out on the street, a kid, a woman, or an authority figure. Everybody has an equal chance of annoying him.

WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?:
-The experiment that bonded the adamantium to his skeleton. He ended up with amnesia and lost over 100 years of memories.
-Meeting Rogue and getting caught up with the X-Men and Magneto. Meeting Jean, who he fell in love with.
-Charles giving him the name Alkali Lake and starting him on the search for answers about his past.
-Meeting Stryker and being taunted with a connection he couldn't remember.
-Returning to Alkali Lake, finding the lab that he kept seeing in his memory. Learning that Stryker was the one who performed the experiment.
-Choosing to stay with the X-Men rather than learn more about his past from Stryker. Choosing to let him die, and all of the answers with him.
-The devastation of losing Jean, when she sacrificed herself so that the rest of the team could live.
-Finding out later that she wasn't dead after all.
-Having to kill her, rather than letting the Phoenix destroy everything.
-Running away to live with bears in the wilderness and finding no solace.
-Going to Japan with Yukio to see Yashida, who he'd saved in Nagasaki in 1945.
-Losing some of the strength of his healing factor when Yashida tried to drain it.
-Making the decision to finally go home to the school after leaving Japan.
-Time traveling to prevent the Sentinal war.
-Successfully changing the past and preventing the war. Jean and the rest of the X-Men are alive again, yay!

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: Guilt is a big one. He's done some terrible things in his life and has killed countless people. If you fuck with him or the people he cares about (hell, or even just anybody undeserving of being fucked with tbh), he'll gut you without a second thought. He doesn't feel bad about some of it, but it weighs on the soul none-the-less. And just because his time travelling shenanigans brought Jean back into his life doesn't mean he still doesn't feel the guilt of her death most of all.

His lack of identity and need to find answers has always had a big impact on his actions, too. It's not such a big deal at his canonpoint, since a lot of his memories have trickled back to him over the years, but there are still holes. The need to fill them in is just less now, since he feels like he has finally found a place where he belongs, and people he cares about with whom to surround himself.

Which brings us to his surrogate family. He spent so much time with nothing and nobody in his life. He came from nowhere and belonged with no-one, but still, when he started to allow himself to get close, the people around him got hurt. Blah blah blah, sad tortured man trope stuff. He ran away to live with bears and traveled halfway around the world only to realize that, hey, he kind of belongs in a school full of brats and superheros. He'd die to defend those brats and superheros, if he could die. The need to save them, to save everybody and make the world better is what motivated him to go back in time when Charles was unable to.

WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: He's big, he's ripped, he has weird hair and crazy sideburns going on, and he doesn't smile much. Physically, Logan is kind of intimidating and scowly. He'll probably seem surly and unapproachable, and just generally unfriendly, since he's not particularly wont to start up conversations if he doesn't feel the need. If you happen to catch him in action during a fight, he'll probably seem vicious and scary, especially if it's a particularly violent fight and he ends up covered in blood. Oops.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: It's not totally inaccurate. If he wants to be left alone, he'll tell you to fuck off. However, he's not against shooting the shit with people or even humoring kids if they want attention (though he'll tell them to fuck off, too, if he's in a bad mood). He's not really inclined to be more or less friendly toward any gender in particular, but he can definitely get flirty with women if they pique his interest. Earlier in canon, he was far more likely to avoid people and resist forming relationships. Where he is now, though, he's gotten a lot better at it.

Normally, he's pretty impulsive about stuff like kicking the asses of douchebags in bars and punching people for being dicks. He might rein that in a little once he figures out it's a Bad Idea here. He might even end up on his Best Behavior once he learns about fetes, because he will not want any part of that shit.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?: Most of the time, he's the type to face something head on. He'll charge headlong into a spray of bullets without a care, because they'll just be forced right out of his body due to his healing factor. He'll reflexively shield somebody else from a fatal blow, bullets, or an explosion, because he can take it. Logan tends to have little regard for his own safety when all hell breaks loose, and he'll do what he can to protect people.

Mental crises are a different story. Bury it deep down and/or run away is the solution. If it's being caused by somebody he can kill, then kill them is the solution.

WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:
1. He lived in a school. Because he really looks like he shouldn't have ever.
2. People experimented on him. Because even when he remembered nothing in canon, he knew this.
3. He's a mutant and he has powers. Just in case shenanigans should ensue. I don't want him to end up accidentally stabbing somebody because he didn't realize he had claws lmao.
4. His name is James. Because I want him to introduce himself to new people as James, and then everybody be confused about it later when he starts using Logan again.
5. He has a thing for redheads. Just cuz.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:

OKAY but seriously. I just wanted to mention that most of my icons are from older movies just because those are the ones that have been iconed the most. His actual physical appearance at his canonpoint gives him a bit of silver hair at his temples and a few wrinkles.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES:

POWERS
Regenerative healing factor. Any wound that Logan sustains will heal almost instantly. Body parts will grow back, bullets will be forced from his body. If he dies, he has a good chance of resuscitating himself. Even the memories he lost long ago have slowly come back to him over the years.

Ageless longevity. He ages more slowly than normal, due to his regenerative capabilities keeping his body at its physical prime. However, this aspect of his healing factor has noticeably started to fail somewhat since the events in Japan.

Disease/contaminant immunity. He can't get sick, and poisons or toxins have little to no effect on him. (He's not feeling the effects of adamantium poisoning yet at his canonpoint, but it will be an issue down the line.)

Superhuman vitality. His drive, willpower, and stamina are far more than that of a normal human's. He can fight for longer without feeling exhaustion, and is highly accustomed to pain.

Retractable claws. He has three bone claws that emerge from each forearm. During the experiment that bonded adamantium to his skeleton, the claws were turned into blades.

Psionic resistance. His mind is able to resist most harmful telepathic manipulation. He was the only one whose mind could physically survive the trip to 1973 in DoFP, and he was able to stand up against Charles' seizures in Logan even after adamantium poisoning started to take a toll on his body.

Enhanced senses. Logan possesses superhuman senses. He can identify people by their scent alone, even if they have shapeshifting powers as strong as Mystique's. (His senses begin to degrade in time, due to the adamantium poisoning, but it's not yet an issue at his canonpoint.)

Animal empathy. He can communicate on a very basic level with animals to make them aware of his actions and intent.

SKILLS

Expert hand to hand combatant, skilled (albeit sometimes reluctant) leader, weapons proficiency (though he highly prefers his own over guns).

WEAKNESSES

Adamantium. Bullets made of it can kill him if you shoot him in the head, or at least damage the adamantium grafted to his skeleton elsewhere. In The Wolverine, a blade of heated adamantium cut off his claws. The bone claws grew back, but somebody would have had to actually graft the adamantium back on to them at one point, since he has them back in DoFP (thx Magneto I guess). The adamantium on his bones is also slowly poisoning him, though at his canonpoint, he's not feeling the effects yet. Some silver hair at his temples and wrinkles are the only sign that something might be interfering with his regenerative capabilities.

Decapitation. If you can cut through the adamantium grafted to his spine and decapitate him, he will die because his brain will no longer be able to communicate with the rest of his body for his healing to take effect.

Drained healing factor. If something permanently drains his power, it won't heal itself. When Yashida tapped into Logan's healing factor in The Wolverine, he took part of it away, and it's gone for good. We don't get a detailed explanation as to how this affects his body. His claws do grow back after they're cut off, so it's obvious that it's still keeping up with healing him. However, his body is starting to show signs of age in DoFP, and this drain on his healing factor is what eventually allows the adamantium poisoning to catch up with him in Logan.

Drowning/oxygen deprivation. He has over 100 pounds of extra weight on him due to the adamantium on his skeleton, so he's not the most graceful swimmer. If his brain is deprived of oxygen long enough, it could kill him, since his healing factor relies on his subconscious brain activity.

Magnetism. His body is full of metal, so he can be manipulated by powerful magnets or people who use magnetic powers.

Mental impairment. I do base bits of his background on Origins, even though a lot of it has been retconned. Stryker shot him point blank with an adamantium bullet, causing amnesia. He healed from the physical wound, but it took decades for his memories to come back; and even then, there are still gaps. In Logan, the adamantium bullet blew a chunk of 24's head off, killing him. So it's safe to say that that particular bit is also retconned from Origins, but SOMETHING still gave him canon amnesia. He's not immune to brain damage, but most of it will heal with time. Basically.

I'm sure there are also crazy powerful abilities and stuff from other people's worlds that will be able to affect him, and I am totally cool with hashing out the specifics with other players!

INVENTORY: So about those weapons.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On him at canonpoint: black t-shirt, jeans, belt, socks, shoes.
Not on him, but can he have them pls: an obscenely large belt buckle, a pack of cigars, and a lighter.
